It was July 21, 2003, a scorching summer night in Greensboro. That night, Chrissy spent her evening working at the Homewood Suites, taking care of the usual business: checking in hotel guests, providing customer service, and (to her dread) answering the phone. While checking in a group of new arrivals, Chrissy glanced upward towards the door that has just swung open, where stood a handsome man she would later come to know as Leonardo. Unfortunately, the simplicity of verbal communication, which is often taken for granted, was nearly impossible, as Chrissy spoke English (and a little German), whereas Leonardo spoke Italian. Saying a casual "hello" was a challenge, but where all challenges are present, triumph is not far behind.

Another guest, Richie Goldberg, who accompanied and took care of "The Italian Guys," because of the obvious language barriers, taught Chrissy how to say hello in Italian and loaned her his Italian/English Dictionary. This newfound source and information excited Chrissy as she awaited opportunities to greet Leonardo. Although the speaking was minimal, their eyes did most of the talking. Their flirtation flourished as they tried to communicate. One Friday night, it took Chrissy an hour to translate an invitation for Leonardo to join her and her friends for a night on the town. He graciously accepted.
